About

Nia Havilliard is an award-nominated children’s illustrator living by the sea in South Wales. Self-taught, her work is known for its warmth, texture, and playful character. She brings a strong sense of light, atmosphere, and offbeat humour to each project, and has a particular love for stories that are a bit odd, a bit funny, and not too neat around the edges. Her illustrations often bend perspectives, lean into the wonky, and leave room for visual storytelling beyond the text.

Her work has been longlisted for the prestigious Carnegie Medal and the Klaus Flugge Prize, and she was nominated for the Ezra Jack Keats Award. She’s been recognised by Empathy Lab, BookTrust, and Kirkus, and featured in reading lists across schools and libraries in the UK and US.

Nia has illustrated a range of picture books and middle-grade titles for major publishers including Scholastic, Bloomsbury, Hachette, Usborne, Little Tiger, and the Books Council of Wales.

She works digitally, mainly in Procreate and Photoshop, using texture, layered colour, and slightly wonky compositions to bring stories and characters to life.

When she’s not drawing, Nia enjoys a good beer garden, good food, watching far too many TV series, and getting lost in a fantasy novel.
